China Wear Resistant Slurry Pump for Solid-liquid Two-phase Flow
The LZ(Y) series of solid-liquid two-phase flow slurry pumps were successfully developed through joint efforts between our factory and the Tangshan Branch of the China Coal Research Institute, based on the latest hydraulic theories both domestically and internationally. This new series of pumps incorporates advanced hydraulic principles and has been recognized at the (Shandong) provincial level as having hydraulic performance that meets the advanced levels of similar products worldwide in the 1990s. In 2003, our factory introduced two-phase flow submersible slurry pump and horizontal slurry pump production technologies from the Institute of Fluid Machinery and Engineering at Tsinghua University and has been designated as the trial and production base for new slurry pump products by Tsinghua University.
The slurry pumps produced in our factory feature special wear-resistant materials for their flow components. Compared to traditional impurity pumps, they not only offer high efficiency, low energy consumption, low noise, and reasonable design, but also significantly extend product service life, bringing higher economic benefits to users. They have been widely used in industries such as alumina, coal, power, metallurgy, mining, and chemicals, and have a longer service life in harsh working conditions, making them widely welcomed and highly praised by users.
The LZ(Y) series slurry pumps are single-stage, single-suction, horizontal (vertical), double-shell (single-shell) centrifugal pumps, with a flow range of 7-2600m3/h and a head range of 7-125m. They can handle a maximum volume concentration of 30% and a maximum weight concentration of up to 60%.
The LZ(Y) series slurry pumps have over 50 specifications, meeting the requirements of different working conditions.
Performance Overview
New Theory The design utilizes two-phase flow theory, specifically tailored for slurry materials. In the design of solid-liquid two-phase flow pumps, full consideration is given to the physical and chemical characteristics of the solids being pumped and their movement patterns during pumping. As a result, the flow path of the medium in the impeller and volute casing closely matches the blade and volute contours, ensuring good energy conversion. This not only reduces energy loss and vibration but also decreases wear on the flow components.
New Structure Based on the two-phase flow theory, the LZ(Y) series pumps are designed with related hydraulic structures, reflecting the technological advancement of this theory. Each specification offers both single-shell and double-shell configurations: the double-shell pump structure adopts the "Warman" pump style with a simplified casing design (for easy disassembly and assembly while maintaining strength), optimized bearing lubrication and assembly methods, and enhanced bracket strength and rigidity; the single-shell pump series is more compact and easier to disassemble; the sealing system comes in two types:
- A combination of impeller secondary blades, a secondary impeller, and a packing ring for sealing, which relies on the rotation of the secondary impeller and blades during operation to block the flow, typically requiring the injection of sealing water under pressure;
- Mechanical seals, which come in four structural forms: dry, external circulation, internal circulation, and double-face. The sealing faces are made of hard materials, not only improving the hydraulic efficiency of the pump but also effectively solving leakage issues, greatly reducing the labor intensity for workers. The mechanical seal structure has nearly a decade of experience in filter press feed pumps, optimizing the solid-liquid separation performance of the filter press, and was featured in a technical exchange in the January 2004 issue of "Coal Preparation Technology." Our factory currently supplies specialized feed pumps for filter press manufacturers on a long-term basis.
New Materials On the basis of current design theories and structures, the flow components of the LZ(Y) series slurry pumps use high-chromium alloy wear-resistant cast iron (Cr15Mo3, Cr28), which is one of the best wear-resistant materials available in China. The addition of trace elements during smelting refines the grain size and improves the microstructure, while heat treatment processes achieve the desired metallographic structure, significantly extending the service life of the flow components. According to the principle that "material determines structure, structure determines performance, and performance determines application," the selection of materials is tailored to the user's actual medium conditions.
Outstanding Features
1. High Efficiency and Significant Energy-SavingThe LZ(Y) series of solid-liquid two-phase flow slurry pumps achieve high efficiency and notable energy-saving due to their thorough consideration of the flow of solid particles within the pump. The flow component profiles are designed to closely match the medium flow path, effectively guiding the flow with minimal energy loss. As a result, these pumps exhibit excellent energy conversion and high efficiency, with significant energy-saving effects. Actual measurements show that the series of pumps is, on average, 8-12 percentage points more efficient than traditional impurity pumps and 5 percentage points more efficient than domestic "Warman" pumps. Additionally, since the two-phase flow theory primarily focuses on slurry materials, the efficiency during slurry material transportation is higher than that during clear water transportation, with an average increase of 4-6 percentage points.
2. Good Abrasion Resistance and Long Service Life of Flow ComponentsUnder the guidance of two-phase flow theory, the flow component profiles are designed to closely match the medium flow path, significantly reducing the scouring and impact wear on the flow components during pumping. This reduces material wear. With the addition of advanced wear-resistant materials, the service life of the flow components is greatly extended, with an average increase of 3-6 times compared to traditional impurity pumps.

The pumps have good cavitation resistance, allowing for high-level arrangement.
4. Large Flow Cross-section Area and Capability to Handle Large ParticlesThe flow cross-section area is large, allowing the passage of larger particles.
